A previously stock-still PS5 disc installation problems appears to have resurfaced after the panel's latest system update.

The PS5 recently received a minor system update that was designed to improve stability, but it appears to have roll backed a previous set up for one of the console's most annoying bug. Reports of the upshot returning come from several users on Reddit and were originally spotted by VGC.

The event in question sees the console attempt to install a PS4 version of a game unprompted when inserting a game disc even when the PS5 upgrade choice has been selected. This issue was widely reported when the console launched in November, merely Sony appeared to accept stock-still information technology before this year.

The Feb PS5 organization update patch notes stated: "In rare cases, the PS4 version of a game would install from the disc after you lot upgraded to and installed the PS5 version. Now, when you insert the PS4 game disc, the PS4 version won't install unexpectedly."

However, in recent weeks reports of the bug returning have been spotted on subreddits for games like Expiry Stranding and No Man'due south Sky, both of which accept a PS4 version and a native PS5 port. While the bug doesn't prevent users from accessing the PS5 version, information technology does mean they finish up with two versions of the aforementioned game installed on their console's limited 825GB hard drive.

Even deleting the PS4 version of the game doesn't set up the bug, equally the next time you insert the disc the console will brainstorm the installation process all over over again. One user reports they've had to delete the unwanted PS4 version of Decease Stranding three times as their PS5 won't end installing it without permission.

Every bit Sony has already fixed this issue once, implementing a solution a second fourth dimension hopefully won't have very long. However, it'south a frustrating reminder that just because an result has been patched doesn't hateful information technology can't render at a later engagement. Nosotros look Sony to quietly reintroduce a fix in the side by side PS5 system update.
